Welcome to the Monastery of Christ the Saviour, also known as Christminster.* We are a community of Orthodox Christian monks living under the discipline of the historic Rule of St. Benedict, originally written in Italy during the early Sixth Century A.D.

Christminster is a Stavropegial Monastery. This means it is directly under the oversight of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of New York. Through him, we are in communion with all the canonical Orthodox Churches that are in communion with the Russian Church.

At Christminster, we worship according to the ancient Western, or Latin, Rites that developed in Europe through the first 1,000 years of Christian History. Most of our worship is conducted in English, with the use of some Latin.

The primary work of the monks of Christminster is worship and prayer. This they do on behalf of, and for the benefit of all. We invite you to send us specific prayer requests, or the names of those you’d like to have commemorated, either living or dead.

Let us arise, then,
at last,
for the Scripture
stirs us up, saying:
“Now is the hour
for us to rise from sleep.”
Let us open our eyes
to the deifying light,
let us hear with attentive
ears the warning
which the divine voice
cries daily to us,
“Today if you hear
His voice,
harden not your hearts.”

−Prologue,
Holy Rule of St. Benedict
